Reviews for Sunset Family Restaurant Waukesha
Review highlights
Based on 1,386 reviewsSunset Family Restaurant is widely appreciated for its warm, inviting atmosphere and classic diner-style experience, making it a favored spot for families and seniors alike. Patrons frequently commend the consistently well-prepared breakfast offerings served all day, highlighting hearty dishes such as biscuits and gravy, omelets, and flavorful gyros. The kitchen delivers meals promptly and hot, even during busy periods, contributing to a satisfying dining experience. Friendly and attentive service is another common positive theme, enhancing the overall welcoming environment. While the food quality and menu variety receive strong praise, some feedback points to minor areas for improvement, including occasional issues with cleanliness and restaurant upkeep, particularly in the restrooms and booth furnishings. Additionally, while most find the food excellent, a few note that certain items, like soup seasoning or coffee, could benefit from refinement. Overall, Sunset Family Restaurant is recognized as a reliable, comforting destination for classic American fare and genuine hospitality.
Diner food and experience at its best! We both had the sausage and biscuit breakfast ($9.95) which comes with 2 eggs (any style), hash browns, an open face biscuit with tasty sausage gravy plus your choice of bacon or sausage. I chose scrambled and bacon. The bacon is thick and perfectly cooked. Eggs were perfect, too (my partner had sunny side up which are sometimes not great at a restaurant). The hash browns are the shredded variety and were fine but not overly crispy or browned. The biscuit was fresh and delicious. The gravy was good and had plenty of sausage crumbles in it. The food was prepared quickly and served with attention to detail. It wasn’t busy because it was mid morning (around 10am) when we were there but it seemed like the kitchen and wait staff knew their jobs and did them well and could handle a rush. The website says the place is open from 6 am until 3 pm. Not sure if that is due to Covid or their regular schedule.
First time visit. Pros: seated immediately. Chicken dumping soup was delicious, but a little too salty. Food came fast and hot. Seems to be a popular place for seniors and elderly Cons: bathroom floor sticky and probably hasn't been cleaned in awhile. Booth tables were very worn, could use an update. Food: turkey club, and croissant sandwich that was served with fries and a wedge of cantaloupe. We both enjoyed but croissant bottom was soggy, hard to hold. The club pieces didn't stay together without toothpick, slippery as well. Would we come back if in the area again? Maybe Update: we stopped in today to give them another try since we were in the neighborhood. I had the bacon cheeseburger for $12 and hubby had blt. Burger was good and BLT had plenty of bacon on it. The star of the show was our server. I should have asked her name as she provided excellent service. Very nice too. I tipped her 40%.
A lovely down home spot, with breakfast served all day! Great gyros, fries and soup!!
10/10!! Definitely come back! Everyone was so kind! It was super busy so the food took a bit but it was WELL WORTH IT! The food was amazing! It would be nice if they got better coffee but everything else was awesome!
Terrific place. Nice friendly service and a menu that won't quit. My breakfast was good, had an omelet, and they didn't burn like most places tend to do.
I’ve eaten here several times. All for breakfast but everything has been really good. I would imagine all their food is good based off of the breakfast menu. Great service too!
